Hawaii is an island doomed to be sunk at the slightest raise in water level. Alaska it is.

Mauna Kea's elevation is 4,200 meters, I don't think Hawaii is in danger of slipping beneath the waves any time soon. :)

After discussing this with someone I think that you must drift down when you wake up (quickly, but slow enough to not be harmed). Otherwise its pretty bad.
You could still drift over spikes, but at least you don't start each day with a fall.

It also makes it more feasible to sleep outside. You might still drift away and get lost, but at least you won't fall from the stratosphere if you pass out for the night.
